"Me and Mom"  14x18
I was very drawn to the baby,  in this photograph which was taken by Nora Efford.

"Big Red"  6"x 8"  This painting was painted from a photograph I took at Telegraph Cove on Vancouver Island.

"The Rose"   5x5"  I have been busy and all of a sudden several days have passed without posting, so here I go again.

This is the first watercolour I have posted.   I love painting pears, they have such nice shapes and variation of colour.

Sunday, November 6, 2011

I took this photograph on a canal trip in Thailand. I painted it this year for the Tour of the Arts show.

Saturday, November 5, 2011

I did this painting from a photograph my daughter took while on safari in Kenya.  I loved the way the animals appear on the horizon with the sunset.

This is a picture of my grandson fishing on Dutch Creek.  I painted it from a photograph that was taken a few years ago.  It has a lot of sentimental meaning for me, as I have spent many hours sitting looking at the creek, walking along the creek and just listening to the water flowing in the creek.

This painting is the second of my venice canal paintings.

Wednesday, November 2, 2011

This painting and the one I will post tomorrow were both photographs of canals in Venice. They were both very detailed and I wanted to make them a bit more abstract so I used photoshop to make the photo less detailed.  I like the way the paintings turned out. I think I will try it with other photographs.   This painting sold at my show last year.

I took this photograph in Holland a few years ago.  There is something about windmills that is very inviting.  I love the tranquil feeling in this painting.

Sunday, October 30, 2011

This is a photograph that my grandson took in Kenya.  I loved the colours and the charge of the elephant.

Saturday, October 29, 2011

This is a painting that I keep working on every once in awhile.  I don't think it is finished but it was so much fun to paint.

Friday, October 28, 2011

This is another of my flower paintings.  I used this card as the image on my business cards.

"The Woman in the Red Dress"  This painting was quite challenging to paint, and I am still not sure I have it right.  It may still need more texture behind the woman.  It is from another of Nora's photographs.

"With Bells On" I loved painting this donkey, and I learned so much painting it.  I changed the blanket several times until I found the colour it is now.  I just could not get it to look right.  That is one of the things I love about oils, the ability to keep working on something and changing it until it is just right.
This little girl was so much fun to paint. It was again taken from a photograph of Nora's.
She was with her mother in the photo, but I chose to only paint her.  She looked so serious like she was looking out for her mother.  It sold at my show last year.

Tuesday, October 25, 2011

I love poppies and have done several paintings with them.  This painting is another in my series of flowers.  This painting sold at my show last year.

Monday, October 24, 2011

I really enjoyed painting this painting.  The daughter seems to be guarding the mother.  The photograph really spoke to me.  Thanks Nora for allowing me to use some of your photos, I really appreciate it. This painting sold at my show last year.

Calm Before The Storm.  I keep forgetting to add the name of my paintings.  This painting sold at the show in Kimberly in January.  I had such fun with the sky and the water in this painting.  I was drawn to the stormy sky in the photograph, and the mystery of it all.  I wonder who is on the boat and what it is carrying?

This is a portrait in pastels that I did at the one and only pastel workshop I have ever taken.  I think it was my first portrait as well.  I had a lot of help from the instructor Susan Woolgar, and I loved working with pastels, but have not returned to it again since the workshop.  I have no idea why, just no opportunity to work with someone and learn more about the medium I think.  Maybe I will dig them out again.

I am doing a series of flower paintings.  I like the freedom of doing a somewhat abstract painting that still has some structure and form.  This painting sold at my show at Pynelogs last year.

Today October 20th 2011 and I am starting to blog on my art blog.  Thank you Sandra H for your help this morning.  I now can move forward with the blog.  I am going to start by posting one of my earlier paintings everyday.  Here goes.  This is one of my favorite paintings.  The original is the Girl with the Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer.  I painted a copy of it in 2008 after I returned from spending two months in Holland with my daughter and her family, and visiting the painting often at Mauritshuis, in The Hague.
